The 2018 Bookish Academy Awards

Helloooo Book Bloggians! It's time for the 2018 edition of the Bookish Academy Awards! This tag was inspired by the Oscars and was created by Bookadoodles! I did it last year, and it was so much fun (but also REALLY hard to choose 😂) awards for my favorite books that I read all year, so I'm doing it again! Though this year is going to be much longer of a post because I just had to had lists of honorable mentions because it was so hard to narrow it down, so get ready!

 * There was a category for best musical score, which is the best soundtrack for a book to movie adaptation, but since I haven't been getting to many adaptations recently, I decided to just skip this one.
This goes to the best male sidekick:

To Kill a Kingdom

Kye from To Kill a Kingdom! He was just so sarcastic and funny and was a great side character in this book! 😂

Best female sidekick:

Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes, #3)

Ceridwen from Frost Like Night! I loved her in this book! I actually really enjoyed reading in her POV and the sub-plot with her throughout the book. I'm glad that her POV was added in this one cuz it added a lot to the story. And she is just such an awesome character! 😄

But here are some honorables I just couldn't not mention: (all honorable mentions in no particular order)

This award goes to the best male protagonist:

A Thousand Perfect Notes

It's Beck from A Thousand Perfect Notes! I love how he is described as a "burnt marshmallow" because that is definitely accurate, he's been burned but still has a soft, sweet and compassionate inside, and I love how relateably and beautifully written he was!

Honorable Mentionables:

Shy from The Hunted
Clay from Thirteen Reasons Why
Kol from The Shadow Queen
Mather from Ice Like Fire and Frost Like Night
Darien from Geekerella
Jamie from A Study in Charlotte
David from Calamity
Elian from To Kill a Kingdom

The best female protagonist:

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)

Nina from Six of Crows! This was such a hard decision cuz there were so many great female protagonists that I love, but I think Nina does deserve this award. She was so funny and kick butt and I love her friendship with Inej and her passion for the things she believes in. She and Inej were basically 95% of the reason I didn't give up on Six of Crows. 😂

Honorable Mentionables:

 Lorelei from The Shadow Queen
Kitty from Pawn
Penny from Girl Online: Going Solo
Lia from The Kiss of Deception
Hazel from Breadcrumbs
Meira from Ice Like Fire and Frost Like Night
Elle from Geekerella
Tella from Fire and Flood and Salt and Stone
Inej from Six of Crows
Luna from Reign of Shadows

The best plot twist!

 The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)

THIS ONE. Hands down. I'm still in denial!

The best non-fiction book:

Titanic: Voices From the Disaster

Well, this is the only one I read so...😂 But it was good!

This goes to the book with the prettiest cover design:

Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book

I know there were so many other books I read this year with gorgeous covers that I could've picked, but I don't know, lately I've been drawn to books with gold on them!

Honorable Mentionables:

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)Once Upon a Dream (Twisted Tales #2)A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1)Rogue Wave (Waterfire Saga, #2)
The Neverland Wars (The Neverland Wars, #1)The Snow Queen and Other Winter TalesSalt & Stone (Fire & Flood, #2)Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2)
Reign of Shadows (Reign of Shadows, #1)To Kill a KingdomThe Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1)Revolution

Best book to movie adaptation:

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)

Well this was the only one I watched.

Best author:

 To Kill a Kingdom

Alexandra Christo! I was so amazed and impressed at the world building in this, especially since it's only a standalone! There were such rich cultures and settings, diverse personalities, and a very creative dark retelling of The Little Mermaid, which I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed! I'm really excited to see what else this author will come out with! 😄

Honorable Mentionables:

Leigh Bardugo
Sara Raasch
C.J. Redwine
Aimee Carter

The original category is a book you would like to see as an animated movie or tv show, but I'm changing it to a book you really want any movie/tv adaptation of:

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)

Six of Crows! Since I struggled through it, I think I would like it a little better as a movie cuz the pacing would be quicker? But the action in the second half is so great I think it would make an awesome cinematic movie...but apparently we are only getting a Netflix show. And it's somehow going to be squished together with the Shadow and Bone series? Eh, I'm skeptical. 😕

Honorable Mentionables:

Ice Like Fire and Frost Like Night
A Study in Charlotte (I think this would make a good Netflix show)
Glass Sword
To Kill A Kingdom
Fire and Flood and Salt and Stone
A Thousand Perfect Notes
Shadow Queen
Pawn (as a TV show)
The Kiss of Deception
This award goes to a book set in a country other than your own, or an edition from another country:

A Thousand Perfect Notes

A Thousand Perfect Notes! It's set in Australia and was published in the UK, and it was definitely one of my favorite books that I read this year. 😊
The book with the best action!

Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes, #3)

Frost Like Night! This book was seriously nonstop action! (at least from the middle to the end cuz I binged it in a day 😂) so many amazing crazy, emotionally crippling things happen one after another, and all I can say is I looooved this series and it was a great finale for it!

Honorable Mentionables:

 Shadow Queen
Ice Like Fire
To Kill a Kingdom
Fire and Flood and Salt and Stone
Six of Crows

Best anthology:

The Snow Queen and Other Winter Tales

This was the only one I read. 😂

The book with the most unique world or setting:

To Kill a Kingdom A Thousand Perfect Notes Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes, #3)

To Kill a Kingdom! It was a close count between Frost Like Night and this, but eventually it won out. I've mention how cool the world building is for a standalone, and it is!

Honorable Mentionables:

Rogue Wave
Ice Like Fire/Frost Like Night
A Thousand Pieces of You
Yellow Brick War
Fire and Flood/Salt and Stone
Reign of Shadows
Six of Crows
Shadow Queen

My favorite book of 2018!

  Top Three:

To Kill a Kingdom

and the winner is...

Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes, #3)

Frost Like Night!!! 😄😄😄 This was DEFINITELY my favorite book I read this year! It ripped my heart out and crushed it and made me cry! 😩 It was the perfect ending to one of my favorite series and I'm so sad it's over!

(I'm starting to notice a trend here...this year and last year the best book I read was one of the last books I read of the year and also one that made me cry. Will that happen again in 2019? Who knows? 😉)

Here is a few extra awards I gave my books that wasn't part of the tag:

Best Sci-Fi: Salt and Stone by Victoria Scott
Favorite Fantasy: Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch
Favorite Retelling: The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine (Snow White)
Best Contemporary: A Thousand Perfect Notes by C.G. Drews
Best Standalone: To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
Best Friendship: Meira and Nessa in Frost Like Night by Sara Raasch
Best Couple: Kol and Lorelei from Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine 💙

I hope you enjoyed my long awards ceremony! 😂 It took forever to decide these and get all of these end-of-year posts done, but they were fun!

I'll see you Saturday with another tag! Bye! ♡
