The NOPE Book Tag!

Hey guys! Today I am finally doing The NOPE Tag, created by A Booktube Book, which Amy @ The Little Book Nerds in the Corner tagged me for at the end of April, so I'm finally just now getting to it. Thanks Amy, and sorry it took me so long! 😔

NOPE Ending: A book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage, or simply because the ending was crappy.

Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book

I liked this book, but the ending just felt a little bit rushed and sloppy, though it was a middle grade and I didn't realize it, so maybe it was just partially my fault for expecting a little more out of it? I don't know. It just could've been 4 stars, but I was a little disappointed by the ending so dropped it down to only 3.

NOPE Protagonist: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

I never liked Vee from Nerve. I didn't understand her justification of participating in the dares, and she just seemed really naive with no common sense and was so hard to relate to, so I found her really annoying.

NOPE Series: A series that turned out to be one huge pile of NOPE after you’ve invested all of that time and energy on it, or a series you gave up on because it wasn’t worth it anymore.

The Princess Diaries (The Princess Diaries, #1)

The only series that I can think of that I gave up reading when I was already further in than just the first book was probably The Princess Diaries. I read the first three I think when I was in middle school because I loved the movies so much, but the books are SOOO different from the movies and everything I loved about the movies was gone and I just ended up hating it, so eventually I gave up. I remember hating even the first book, so I don't know why I made myself suffer through two more. Maybe it was because I almost always have an uncontrollable feeling of needing to finish what I start. 😂

NOPE Popular pairing: A “ship” you don’t support.

 Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

Warner and Juliette. Like whhhhyyyyyyyyy! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

NOPE Plot twist: A plot twist you didn’t see coming or didn’t like.

 The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)

I just read this last month and I TOTALLY did not guess even close to who the killer was and I LOVED it! The author does SUCH a great job at throwing you off course and the parts with the killer's POV have you thinking it's someone completely different and that their motives are completely different from what you would expect. Even a couple of days after finishing it I was walking around in shock just thinking "It was them?!" Really? REally? ReaLLY? ReALly??? REALLY???!!!
oh my god wow GIF

NOPE Protagonist action/decision: A character decision that made you shake your head and go NOPE.

A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1)

The only thing that I can think of is "I knew getting on that submarine was a bad idea." 😂
I don't think it was that big of a deal, but I couldn't think of a better answer.

NOPE Genre: A genre you will never read.

Horror or paranormal romance. I see vampires, fallen angels, demon hunters, zombies, or werewolves, and I think:

gross no way GIF

NOPE Book format: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

Well sometimes if a cover is really really really REALLY pretty and I just HAVE to have it in hardcover and it's only in paperback, then I'll wait to see if they release it in hardcover, but a better answer for this is I very rarely read ebooks, so if a book was only in digital format I would definitely hope that they would put it in print before reading it. But most of the time I think books are made into ebooks later, so this has never been a problem for me yet.

NOPE Trope: A trope that makes you go NOPE.

I don't know, love triangles? I don't feel like I've read enough of any one thing yet to recognize the tropes and have more specific ones bother me that much.

NOPE Recommendation: A book recommendation that is constantly hyped and pushed at you that you simply refuse to read.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

Uh, Harry Potter? 😂 I'm sorry, okay? I just don't want to get into it.

NOPE Cliche/pet peeve: A cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

The only book I've read where I realized that this bothered me was Shatter Me, but I don't think I like excessive metaphors or overly poetic writing. I really like them when they are used occasionally to spice it up, but if you use it way too often, it loses it's charm and just gets annoying. 😕

NOPE Love interest: The love interest that’s not worthy of being one. A character you don’t think should have been a viable love interest.

 Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

NOPE Book: A book that shouldn’t have existed that made you say NOPE.

 Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

I feel bad putting Shatter Me in here so many times, but I just really did not like it and everything with Warner was just really problematic and creeped me out and made me so angry!

NOPE Villain: A scary villain/antagonist you would hate to cross and would make you run in the opposite direction.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

Again, Shatter Me. I don't care what anybody says, Warner is the villain and NOTHING else!

NOPE Death: A character death that still haunts you.

I don't know, the most recent death that made me pretty sad was probably Alysson's in Ice Like Fire.

NOPE Author: An author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit.

Sigh. Probably Tahereh Mafi. I know I've only read one book by her, but I just really did not enjoy it and I just don't think I click with her writing style. Plus, none of her other books interest me so I don't think I'll read any of them. 😕

So what did you think of this tag? What are some book tropes that bother you? If you want to do this tag on your own blog, than go for it! 😊

Thanks for reading and I'll see you back here on Saturday!

Bye! ♡
