The Mid-Year Freak Out Tag!

Hi everybody! Today I'm doing the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag, created by Chami @ Is That Chami! I wasn't able to do this tag last year, but I'm really excited to finally get to do now, so let's get started! 😊

Best book you’ve read so far this year.

Ice Like Fire (Snow Like Ashes, #2)

It was really hard to choose, but I think I'm going to go with this one so far. This is definitely one of my favorite series, and it was such a great sequel to the first book. The last few chapters had me so stressed out but in the best possible way and I really want to read the next book, but it's the last one so at the same time I'm too scared to see how it's going to end!

Best sequel you've read so far this year.

Ice Like Fire (Snow Like Ashes, #2)

I almost picked another book for this question because I didn't want to use the same book twice in a row, but I'd really be lying if I said it wasn't the best sequel I've read all year so far. It was SO awesome and it didn't suffer from "second book syndrome" at all in my opinion! I actually liked it even more than Snow Like Ashes, because I gave that only 4 stars on Goodreads, and this one I gave the full 5!

New release you haven't read yet, but want to.

A Thousand Perfect Notes

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ONE! If ONLY my pre-order would come already! 😩

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

Summer Bird Blue

I don't read many new releases, so I don't usually keep up with them too much, but this is one I found that happens to be coming out later this year that I'm really interested in, but I think I want to read it's companion, Starfish, first. 😊

Biggest disappointment.

The Sound

UGHHHH. Where do I even begin with this? I went into it expecting an awesome murder mystery and all I got was a trashy teen romance and stupid drama. 😡 I had to DNF it at only 20 percent or something like that. It's such a shame too cuz the cover is so pretty! 😫

Biggest surprise.

The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)

I was going to go with Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout, because of how much more I actually ended up liking more than I expected, but really if I'm going strictly from what the question says, then I really need to go with this one because the plot twist at the end really did come as the biggest shock to me out of all the books I've read so far this year! Even now I'm STILL in denial, okay?! 😂

Favorite new author. (Debut or new to you.)

The Naturals (The Naturals, #1)

I think I'm definitely interested in reading more of Jennifer Lynn Barnes' books. Her author bio says she has a degree in cognitive science from Yale, and you can totally tell in her writing because the way she wrote this book she really got into the killer's head and it was so creepy, realistic and amazing! I really want to read the rest of this series and also I noticed that another series that I had already added to Goodreads a while ago and that I was really interested in, The Fixer, I hadn't realized until recently that it was also written by this author, so I'm really excited about reading some more of her books now. 😄

Newest fictional crush.

I don't know, I really don't crush very easily. And I'm fine with shipping fictional characters with each other, NOT with myself!

But ugh...I don't know, if I had to choose...Jamie from A Study in Charlotte maybe? 😳😳😳

A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes, #1)

Newest favorite character(s).

A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes, #1)

I think I have to go with Charlotte and Jamie from A Study in Charlotte. I just really loved how their characters were written! I LOVED their sarcasm and fun banter and their deductions and just literally all of their dialogue especially when they were together. It was just so funny and cool because they were totally like how I would imagine modern teenage versions of Holmes and Watson, and it all was just so awesome. 😂

Book that made you cry.

The Neverland Wars (The Neverland Wars, #1)

None of the books I've read so far recently has really made me cry yet, but this one came pretty close just with how much I related to the main character and shared her thought processes and opinions about adulthood that it really got me emotional because I thought I was literally the only one who had thoughts like that!

Book that made you happy.

Much Ado About Anne (The Mother-Daughter Book Club, #2)

I could go on forever about how warm and fuzzy this series makes me feel, but instead I wrote a whole post on it, which you can read here. 😂

Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I haven't read any books that are becoming movies yet this year, and the ones that have come out recently I just haven't been interested in or just haven't been able to read the books first yet. 😕

Favorite review you've written this year.

I think my favorite would be this mini one of At Her Fingertips by Kellyn Roth, because I was able to participate in the author's blog tour for it, and along with my mini review I interviewed a character from her book, so that made it really fun and memorable. 😄

Most beautiful book you've bought or received so far this year.

To Kill a Kingdom

I don't know, I guess this one? I really like the color of the water in the background and the gold font. Plus I got this new for a good deal on Amazon and it came with a SIGNED book plate and typed LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR which was completely unexpected so I was SO freaking excited! Apparently it came in a book subscription box and whoever originally got it didn't want it so they sold it and didn't open it because it was wrapped in plastic with the extras tucked in and it just happened to come to me and I was just so HAPPY!!!!!!!

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

You want a list? Because I definitely have a list: 😂

I know! I'm so excited to read it! :D

  2. Ahhh that's SO COOL about the To Kill A Kingdom edition that you got!! So lucky. And fajskdlfa I'm so honoured my book is on your list. <3 You're so lovely!!

I loooved The Naturals too but for some reason still haven't read the sequels. *facepalm* I will get onto that haha. Also Summer Bird Blue is really good but not actually related to Starfish at all, so you can read one without the other! (Although Starfish is aaaamazing so.😂)

      I KNOW! I was SOOOO excited! :D
Yeah IDK when I'll read the sequels either. :P I'm trying to make a list of books to prioritize on my TBR, and it's going to be looooong. XD
Yeah I know Starfish isn't related, but it was published first and has been on my TBR longer, so I still wanted to read it first. :P
