August Wrap Up + September Goals!

Hello fellow book nerds!

Ugh can you believe it's September already?! What is happening?! I can't keep up with life! 😱😱😱

Anyway, I am back today after another random mini-hiatus with a way overdue August Wrap Up! I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in a little while! Life has been crazy. I went to my state fair last Saturday, Tuesday I just didn’t get around to blogging, and this Saturday I was at the fair again and for some stupid reason I forgot I needed to blog that day and I was way too exhausted after I got home.😴
Though, a little voice in the back of my head kept telling me on Friday: you should blog today; you should blog today! And stupid me kept thinking: Why? It’s Friday not Saturday. Because you’re going to the fair again tomorrow, that’s why! Duh! Way to go, Heather.😑
Oh well, I guess now you guys get posts two days in a row!😜

Okay, let’s just get into this craziness:

  • Work on editing F.O.C.U.S. Book 1. Ha ha. That didn’t happen.
  • World build Chronicles of Alexya. I actually did do this. I’m proud of myself! My story has something resembling a world now, and I cleaned up my hot mess of a Pinterest board and added some mini sub-boards. Now I just have to work on actually plotting…
  • Start plotting F.O.C.U.S. Book 2. Ha hah ha…
  • Brainstorm pen names. Kind of. I did a little bit.
  • Add stuff to my bullet journal. Kind of? I took some page flags and planned out what pages I wanted to go where, which I probably should’ve done months ago when I first started bullet journaling, but heh heh…yeah…I didn’t. And I don’t remember adding any actual pages this month, so…I should probably work on it.
  • Try to work on finishing the first draft of The Monarch. Hah aha ha ha hahaha ahhaahaa..that SO did not happen.

I finished reading Sanctuary by Meg Cabot, Waterfall by Lauren Kate, and A Whole New World by Liz Braswell. I'm kind of disappointed I didn't read as much as I did in July, but I was kind of in a reading slump this month, probably because I read so much last month and I'm not used to reading that much in such a short amount of time. Plus last month I read so much because I joined three different readathons, and I didn't do any this month.

Books read: 6

Books finished: 3

Total pages read: 1,319

Average rating: 3 stars

Waterfall (Teardrop, #2)

This book was weird. It was the sequel to Teardrop, which I actually liked well enough except for the romance, but this one definitely wasn't as good. I gave it only two stars, because the only things I liked about it were: I was glad Eureka's little four-year-old twin half brother and sister played more of a role in this one. I liked how cute and smart they were, and they were fun to read about in the middle of all the craziness that was happening. Speaking of getting a break from the craziness, I liked that it was in third person, and occasionally jumped to a side character's POV so that we could get a break from all the drama with Eureka, which was kinda hard to handle.
The things I didn't like about it was pretty much everything else. The world building in this one was so hard to wrap my head around. It's like it completely changes genres from the first book, and it kind of seems unrealistic at how much everything changed. It didn't really seem like the same story. Also the ending was terrible. I kind of felt like it was a little sloppy, like even the author got tired of her story and just wanted to end it all as quick as possible.

Sanctuary (1-800-Where-R-You, #4)

This was the fourth book in the 1-800-Where-R-You series by Meg Cabot. I really enjoyed this book, and I read it pretty quickly. I thought it was written a lot better than the third book, Safe House, which I read in July. The plot was really action packed and engaging, and it made me really not like the antagonist so I was rooting for Jess and Rob to take them down even more than usual. 😜 I'm really excited to read the last book in the series, Missing You, because the blurb makes it look like everything fell apart and is so different from how this book ended, so now I want to know how that happened, because this one ended well. I gave it three stars.😊

A Whole New World (A Twisted Tale #1)

I LOVED this book! It's a Disney's Aladdin retelling, and it has a lot of low ratings on Goodreads, but I don't understand why because I think the author did such a great job with it! My favorite thing about this book is that the author stayed true to the personalities of the characters and the world of Agrabah that you have grown up with, while completely changing the story. I also like how she added more detail to the culture of Agrabah to make it seem more realistic and a little less "Disney" yet keeping it familiar. I love the character development that the author added too! It made the story so much better than the original in my opinion! 😄If you love retellings, and Disney especially, you should definitely try out this book!

* Full Review coming soon!

Redeemed (The Missing, #8)Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1)Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend (Broken Hearts & Revenge, #1)All the Light We Cannot See

I'm kind of loving the accidental aesthetics of my Currently Reading sidebar. All the books I'm reading this month are all blue so they kinda match my blog! 😊 (Except for Snow Like Ashes. It's gray, but close enough.)
Hopefully I'll finish All the Light We Cannot See this week, but I still have 314 pages left, so we’ll see how that goes.

To Read:

The Here and Now
Jane Eyre

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)

Yes, I realize this is a very random and various choice of books. 😂

  • Start getting ready for Nanowrimo and decide which project to work on for it.
  • Work on finishing editing F.O.C.U.S. Book 1.
  • Work more on building Chronicles of Alexya (COA) (and start actually plotting if I decide to do it for Nano.)
  • Brainstorm more pen names.
  • Bullet Journal more often.
  • Work more on the first draft of The Quiet Girl. Ha ha...yeah this probably won't happen.
  • Edit my Snow White short story and brainstorm titles. This might not happen either, but we'll see how productive I am.
  • GET MY DRIVER’S PERMIT! Yeah, I should've done this years ago...and have I done it? No.
  • Hopefully get a job at a small local bookstore I really love, or maybe the local library? I need a life!
  • Maybe teach myself how to play the piano again? I used to hate piano. My mom made me take lessons when I was little for four long years before she let me quit. But suddenly I feel like if I taught myself songs I actually like and know already using YouTube, I might actually like it because I'm doing it for me and for fun.
  • Learn to cook some recipes I found on Pinterest. I don't know what's been happening to me lately. I suddenly want to learn to cook like everything! I've never been that interested in cooking. It's like I've suddenly been possessed by Julia Child or something!
  • Practice making graphics.
  • Try to comment more often.
  • Figure out how to network more. Help! I have no idea what I'm doing!😰
  • Post more consistently.Yeah, I've been slacking lately. I'm so sorry. 😞
  • Work on formatting more neatly. Yeah, my posts are a little bit of a hot mess.😆
  •  CATCH UP ON REVIEWS!!!! I can't figure out how to get into my iTunes for some reason, and I was going to download some movie adaptions I need to watch so I can make book to movie comparison reviews, but I can't because I'm locked out and I need to catch up!

I hope you had a happy Labor Day! What books are you reading lately? Can you believe it's already September? What are you looking forward to about fall? Talk to me! 😃
