Today I decided to share my writing
works in progress. 😊 All of them are in various stages of progress, but
none of them are anywhere close to being ready to publish. I’m planning
to publish everything I write (or everything
I finish at least) in the future whenever I get them ready, though. I love
writing but I don’t think I could write with the intention of just keeping it
to myself. Then my stories wouldn’t really feel real, you know what I mean? Plus, stories are meant to be shared! I
love daydreaming that one day BookTubers and other bloggers and well, anybody really, will one day be gushing
and fangirling over my books.😄
Anyway, back to the point.
The first writing project I have going is
a middle grade series about eight best friends who are all on a nationally
competitive dance team. Yes, I shamefully got the inspiration for it from
watching the first couple of seasons of Dance Moms, but I swear my series will mostly focus on the actual dancers, and it
will be a LOT less crazy. I mean,
there will still be some drama I
guess, just enough to keep it interesting, (I hope) but it was more the idea of
competitive dancing that I thought was cool. I took some ballet and a little
jazz when I was little, but my studio never went to any competitions (that I
know of, at least) we just had our annual recital, and that was it, so
eventually I got bored.😞
I have the first draft of the first
book done, and I’ve started going through it and highlighting things and doing
some editing and revising, but I don’t work on that anywhere near how much I
should, so I’m trying to discipline myself to at least get close to finishing
the second draft by the end of this year, but who knows if that will actually
happen because I have so many other
projects to work on. 😩
This is definitely the project closest
to being done, and I know I probably shouldn’t, but sometime this year I also
want to start on the first draft for the second book in the series, because I
am absolutely bursting with ideas for
this! (I already at least roughly have the entire series outlined and it
started out being around 20 books but now I’ve narrowed it down to 12 and I
know I really need to figure out how to narrow it down even more because I know ain’t
nobody got time for that! 😜) I’m thinking about working on it in
November for NANOWRIMO, but I don’t think I’ll finish it because I’ll be back
in school…unless I can write 40,000 out of those 50,000 words all during Thanksgiving
break, but I’ll also probably be catching up on my reading challenge then too
so…ughhh…bookworm problems! Too many books and not enough time!
Next is a novel that I started for my
first attempt at Camp NANOWRIMO last year, and I did pretty good I think. My
goal was 50,000 words since I figured if I could do that I could do the real
NANOWRIMO, but I only got to about 27,000 words which I guess for my first try
is pretty good. I tried to finish it during Camp Nano this April, but life got
in the way and I kinda gave up, so I’m hoping to at least try to work more on
finishing it this year. Anyway, it is a contemporary about a princess who fled
her home country with her family after a coup and is now living in NYC incognito
as a normal American teenager.
My next project is probably the project
that I should be working on the most,
because it is the most important to me, but I guess that is part of the reason
I’m procrastinating on it, because I live literally everyday in my head as the
main character and she is so closely based on me that I’m kinda afraid that
when I finish it and get it published, I’ll have to let go of her and I don’t
know if I can ever do that. Plus, it’s
a contemporary and the way I have it in my head is that it plays out just like
real life, and I have the beginning written and I have an idea for the ending,
but the middle is kinda fuzzy. I just have some random scenes that I know I’m
going to put in there, I just don’t know when, and I’m having trouble figuring
out how to give it an actual plot that actually progresses and wont be annoying
or boring since I’m just kind of living it in my head…does that make sense?
Probably not. Anyway, other than the random scenes, I have the first two and a
quarter chapters written down, and the rest has been in my head literally 24/7
for the past five years. So…you can see how attached to this I am that makes it
so hard to get it out on paper…or on computer…or…you know what I mean.
Next is the first of a sci-fi quartet
that I also started around five years ago that kinda fell by the wayside. It is
about a fugitive mother and daughter who are from the future who came back to
our time to seek refuge. Aaannnd that’s basically all I know about it so far.😂I wrote the prologue for it, and I was pretty proud of it, but then every time
I tried to write anything past that I got blocked. (smacks forehead and sighs)
I want to be able to go back to it in the future…maybe after I read more sci-fi
I’ll be inspired to work on it again.
Another project I kinda have
temporarily given up on is about a girl and her twin brother who find out one
day that they have a bunch of siblings that their Dad had given up for adoption
and they go and try to track them down. Yeah...I only had a vague outline of
this and I kinda got bored so…hopefully someday I will start working on that
again.
Next is the first book in a duology
about a girl who discovers she is a mermaid after her parents drown. I wanted
it to be contemporary but I didn’t want it to be cheesy, so I’m still figuring
out how to actually make it good. I
started writing the first chapter and I am really proud of it, but like the
sci-fi book I got stuck after that.😟
My next projects are ones that I’m just
in the stages of world and character building and outlining and all of that, so
I haven’t gotten any actual words down yet:
· A contemporary series about families that host foreign exchange students and their experiences with that.
· A contemporary series about four friends training to be Olympic figure skaters.
· And a fantasy trilogy about teenage pirates.
· Also various other stories that are just seeds of ideas.
I’m also working on building my blog up
and trying to get on a regular schedule. (I just figured out how to make cool
graphics so this blog will be a little more colorful here pretty soon.) 😉
And I just started doing a free online
creative writing course on this website my friend Grace told me about: The Write Practice. Hopefully it will help me make
progress on my many projects. I will leave the link below if you want to check
out their site.😊
And also,
I was reading Kellyn’s blog over at Reveries, (you should totally check out her
blog, the link to it is on my sidebar to the right ---> 😃) and she
mentioned she was thinking about entering The Rooglewood Press Snow White
Retelling contest. And OMG GUYS I just HAVE to be a part of this too! It looks
like SO MUCH FUN. The top five winners will be published together in an actual book and I’m SO EXCITED! I’ve
entered a few writing contests before but not like this and I honestly have
never been more excited about a writing contest EVER! It would so AMAZING to be
one of the winners but even if I don’t win, I can just post my story here on my
blog for everyone to read anyway! (smile) And if any of you fellow writers out
there want to take part in it or just learn more about it, I will leave the
link to the contest’s page below because seriously it sounds like an AMAZING
opportunity! I can’t wait to start brainstorming!
Welp, that’s it for now. I know it’s
kind of a lot. But to those of you who stuck it out through my ramblings I very
much appreciate it.😄
Feel free to comment below about any projects
you have going on and how they’re coming? Are you going to join the Rooglewood
Press contest? Let me know!♡

Wow you sure are a busy little writer and these idea sound GREAT! So many projects to work on, squeee! :D Good luck with that contest too. And I have to admit, I'm flailing the most over a book about teen pirates. 😍 YAS.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I knew you would. XD I mostly started daydreaming about it when I was trying to imagine what the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is going to be like and also Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller and I still haven't seen the movie or read that book yet and I'm reeeeaaaallly excited about it so in anticipation I just started writing my own book in my head. :P
